Goodbyes
Prince Siegfried and Rue had finished their preparations and were finally leaving Gold Crown Town for the Drosselmeyer’s story.
Rue gently pried Ahiru from Fakir’s arms and held her so they at eye level. “Take care, Ahiru.” Rue said as she stroked the yellow feathers, careful not to aggravate the duckling’s injuries.
Ahiru nodded, giving the princess a small, reassuring quack. She gave a small, before turning to Fakir. She stared intently at the young writer as she placed Ahiru back in his arms.
Fakir shifted uncomfortably under the weight of her gaze. “What do you want?” He demanded.
Rue took a step closer to him. “I don’t want Ahiru to get lonely. If I see she’s alone when I come to visit Gold Crown Town, you’ll regret it.” Rue declared, poking Fakir in the chest for emphasis.
“You have nothing to worry about. Ahiru and I already made an agreement; I’m staying with her from now on. ”
"Is this true, Ahiru?"
The duckling nodded emphatically.
"Very well," Rue said. "You had better treat her like royalty …”
"I-I’ll take good care of Ahiru!" Fakir stammered as his face turned a deep red.
“You had better,” Rue mumbled.
Rue said goodbye to Ahiru and Fakir one last time, and turned to enter the carriage where Prince Siegfried was waiting for her.
“She was less irritating as Kraehe,” Fakir muttered. Ahiru nipped at tips of his fingers.
“Hey, stop it! That hurts!” The young writer complained loudly.
