I've noticed that the latest animated movies are coming out a week earlier in Australia then advertised. The 2D version of Rise of the Guardians was released on December 7, even though both television and online material said it wouldn't be released until December 13. That's the date 3D the version becomes available. It's the same with Wreck-It Ralph. Ads on TV and online release dates say it won't be released here until December 26, but tickets are available for the 2D version on the 21st. And I only found this about by looking up session times on cinema websites. It's not advertised anywhere. I suppose this is a marketing strategy to get more people to see the 3D version.
Why not just release both versions at the same time? If they're worried not enough people will go see the 2D version, they should let people know, not just quietly have session times available a week before the 3D version comes out. I think they'd be better releasing both versions at the same time, like I think the US does? There are most likely other countries using the same method they're doing in Australia for animated movies now. It's really odd.
