May. 21st, 2013 09:51 pm So, I just have to finish one assignment, and my second last semester of Uni will be over. When my final semester comes around, you can be assured I will be counting down the weeks, and days, until it will be over. It's not that I haven't enjoyed it at all. Because it definitely has been a rewarding and amazing experience on the whole ... I'll just be incredibly relieved when it's finally over.

Mar. 21st, 2013 02:34 pm A guy just mansplained the definition of misogyny to me. In my Contemporary Poetry class we discuss and analyse poems on the forums. I was talking about Shakespeare’s sonnets and I stated that while he was progressive for his time, his work also reflected the misogynistic views of the time. Another student who introduced himself by saying teaches Shakespeare sonnets in high school my comments well though out and insightful. However, he said he disagreed that Shakespeare had misogyny in his work because “discrimination is not the same thing as hatred.” He told me that the women in Shakespeare’s been portrayed as powerless, (?) but that wasn’t an example of hatred for women. Btw, I was talking about a sonnet where Shakespeare denigrated a woman based on her appearance.

Mar. 5th, 2013 09:13 pm Next week I start studying again for the year. This will be the last year of my degree!
This trimester, I'm doing a unit in Contemporary Poetry, and another called Driven to Write. It's a unit where we pick a genre of YA fiction, then research and write in that genre for the rest of the trimester. I've already picked fantasy. We're required to read a few books in that genre for the unit. This will give me an opportunity to read books I've been wanting to for ages. I've started reading Dragonflight by Anne McCaffrey, which is rather slow but still enjoyable. It has interesting world-building so far, and a lady protagonist who already seems like a dynamic and amazing character. I plan to (finally) read Howl's Moving Castle next, and then The Last Unicorn. So, I'm feeling pretty excited about uni so far this year, 'cause I'm doing things that I really love.Although I probably be stressing hard and wishing it was all over by the time I get towards the end.

I at least want to try finally getting the ideas I've had in my head for a fantasy narrative, and the brief plans I've written out, into a novel next month. I think it will at least be a step forward. So, I'm feeling incredibly nervous and excited at the same time about doing this. I'd love to know if other people are participating this year, so I can follow what you're writing, or if you participated in previous years, and what your experiences were like with that.
A Quick Update
Sep. 13th, 2012 01:29 pm Mum's back from the hospital now, and feeling better. She came home Monday. Although, with her chronic lung condition, she needs to be on oxygen at home from now on. There's now a compressor at home, and she's mostly adjusted well to the change.
I still have a slight cough, but other than that, I'm over the flu.
So, everything is fine for the moment.

Well, this is just great.
Sep. 4th, 2012 04:37 pmI woke up feeling terrible yesterday, and I got progressively worse throughout the day. It turns out I have the flu. As a result, I haven't been able to visit my mum in hospital; just talk to her of the phone in a barley audible voice because I have a sore throat.
At least I have plenty of time to get my uni assignments done, so I don't have to rush things while I'm feeling like shit and having trouble concentrating.
So, I won't be around much until I'm feeling better.

Sep. 2nd, 2012 05:44 pm My mum's fine now. When she got to hospital, the doctors gave her antibiotics and she settled down soon after. The doctors think that because spring is starting in Australia, the pollen in the air caused the attack. They're just keeping her there for a few days to make sure she's all right.
The moment we called the ambulance, I started panicking. Last time she went to hospital, her condition was much more severe. She was in an induced coma for two weeks; the doctors were uncertain if she would pull through. So, I'm massively relieved right now.
Thank you for being so supportive earlier. You are all awesome and I'm glad you're my friends. <333

May. 23rd, 2012 07:10 pmWow
I haven't posted in so long! I queued many posts on tumblr, but I also been spamming a bit on there over the lately. I just have two more assignments for this trimester, then will have more of a presence here. I'm sorry for being rather scarce around these parts lately.
What's been going on with everyone? How are you all?

Jan. 24th, 2012 02:06 pm I've already picked my subjects for when I start uni again in March. I'm going to study Retelling Myths and Tales: Classic to Contemporary and Editing. I'm excited about both of them, but I'm especially excited about the first one. Because studying the origins of myths and fairy tales and looking at ways of reinterpreting them is relevant to my interests.
I'm going to participate in the March
womenlovefest It's a week long fest dedicated to celebrating and defending unappreciated ladies in fandom. The held a fest last year and people came up with some amazing things! I've claimed Rue and Tsubomi Hanasaki from Heartcatch Precure (I have an absurd amount of love for that show). I'll probably do something for Ahiru too. I'm going to start writing about them very early so I have time for the other things going on that month.
