Jul. 9th, 2011 07:25 pm There is a little known anime I started a while ago that I'm yet to finish called Mokke. It's a sweet coming-of-age story that centres around two sisters, Akiko and Mizuki. They have encounters with spirits and various other things from Japanese folk lore. Akiko is the older one and has the ability to see spirits and Mizuki often gets possessed by them. And this dynamic plays out in far more interesting and nuenced ways than you would initially expect.
It's rather slow paced with little action and has a distinctly slice of life feel to it, so it might not be for everyone. But I adore the sisters, their relationship and the details of Japanese folk lore. I think in many ways it's reminiscent to some of Hayao Myazaki's films.
Also, the animation is gorgeous.
